How to make a ribbon lei

We wanted to recreate our ribbon lei at the ranch but couldn't remember how to make them. A few months go by and our brains had written over the lei information. I searched the internet with absolutely no luck, I even bought a book off of Amazon. It sounded like it would have this simple technique but no, it had everything else but this one…darn! The downside of not being able to preview an entire book before buying it.

So, to start you need a long grosgrain ribbon (as shown here).

Make a slip knot as shown here. There might be a better technique to start with but I can't think of it. The slip knot will probably need to be adjusted to fit more snuggly around the inserted loops to come.

Next, insert ribbon loop onto the loop of the slip knot. Keep the tail of the looped ribbon on the down side of the new inserted loop. This is where the slip knot may need to be adjusted, to make it snug around the new loop.

Continue to insert loops alternating from one side to the other.

Close-up of what a loop looks like as well as the lei as it is braided.

This shows how you alternate from one side to the other inserting loop into loop.

There's the completed lei, more like a bracelet. The slip knot at the end isn't neat, hence the desire to find a better way of starting.

The brown ribbon shows the backside and the green ribbon shows the front side.

Puppy dogs find this terribly boring and ask to go for a walk instead!
